I feel really lame and shallow choosing a material item for Thursday Thankfulness, but bear with me, it goes deeper. I'll tie it all together, not to worry.

My husband came home with a gift for me yesterday. This is huge. He's not a gift-giver. He's the self-proclaimed "non-celebrater" of Valentine's day. Yeah, for reals. But he redeems himself in other ways, so I'm over it.

Anyways, he brought me this bag. It's GORGEOUS.

Best part? It's handmade by indigenous women in Chiapas. (southern-most state in Mexico)

Which takes me back to our pre-baby days of carefree traveling where we wandered free as birds and explored the far ends of the earth... Ok, I'm exaggerating. But we did explore A LOT of Mexico & backpack through southern Mexico and part of Central America.

And, people, I'm THANKFUL that I got to travel, at least a little bit, before Solo-boy forever changed my life. I'm thankful for those memories of just me and Mr. P, when the greatest of our worries was getting sick on sushi or which hotel had the best view for the cheapest price. Don't get me wrong, I hope my traveling days aren't over. I hope we can salvage a bit of that adventurous spirit and zest for new places, new foods, new languages and pass it on to our bi-cultural, Mexican-American kid we call Solo-boy.

Here are some pictures we took in BEAUTIFUL Chiapas (December 2007, when Solo-boy was just a pea inside me), where maybe, just maybe I crossed paths with the woman who lovingly created my colorful new bag, now sitting in the entryway & already proudly stuffed with diapers, Vaseline & my yellow snake skin clutch.
